Hugo Boss marketer to head Lycos in Europe

Internet portal company Lycos has appointed former Hugo Boss and Procter & Gamble marketer Ben Regensburger as its new European marketing chief.

Internet portal company Lycos has appointed former Hugo Boss and Procter & Gamble marketer Ben Regensburger as its new European marketing chief.

The move will mean Regensburger becomes vice-president of marketing for Europe at Lycos. He replaces Andreas Gregory, who has left to join e-commerce company Intershop as European vice-president of marketing.

Regensburger left Hugo Boss in May after less than a year at the company’s headquarters in Metzingen, Germany, and following a major restructure which split the marketing division into three departments under chief executive Werner Baldessarini.

Regensburger joins Lycos as the company awaits further suitors following the collapse of its &£11bn takeover by USA Networks amid criticism the deal undervalued Lycos’ stock. Investment capital group CMGI retains 18 per cent of the company.

Lycos, which owns a number of Internet search brands, including tripod and HotBot, recently centralised its media into MindShare after a pitch across Europe. UK incumbent Media- vest held on to the account but was later ousted in favour of MindShare.

Regensburger joined Hugo Boss in August 1998 from German city guide publisher Prinz. Prior to that he worked as a product manager at Procter & Gamble, holders of the licence to the Hugo Boss brand in the UK, with responsibility for brands such as Hugo Boss Essentials and Old Spice.
