Tate searches for marketer replacement

Tate, the art gallery group, is looking for a director of marketing and communications following the departure of Damien Whitmore to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Whitmore has been with Tate for the past nine years and takes up his role as director of communication, at the end of the month.

Tate expects to replace him by the end of the year.

A spokeswoman for the group says: “We are keen to take our marketing forward and try new techniques over the next few years.”

It is unlikely the change in personnel will precipitate a review of the £1m advertising account, which was won by Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy in January this year.

The pitch followed the Tate’s split with agency of record TBWA/London in December last year. The agency handled the account since 1997. Media is handled by Total Media.

Earlier this year, Tate teamed up with DIY specialist B&Q to launch a four-colour paint range inspired by the company’s four galleries (MW March 1).
