Met ads to combat mobile phone crime

The Metropolitan Police is stepping up its war against mobile phone crime with the launch of its first advertising and marketing campaign to warn people to stop “false reporting” their stolen mobile phones.

A spokeswoman for the Met Police says: “The incidents of people making false claims about mobile phones are on the increase. We want to warn people to refrain from doing that.”

The campaign, to run from next month, will be created by Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy, which was appointed to the Met Police’s &£2m advertising business earlier this year (MW January 8). The agency is expected to create communications for a range of issues concerning the Met Police’s impact on the safety of Londoners, the first being mobile phones and safer streets.

In August, the agency will create a campaign talking about the impact of the Met Police on street crime. The different advertising campaigns will all carry the strapline “Working for a safer London”. MediaCom handles the planning and buying.

Other themes to be highlighted in forthcoming advertising are expected to include gun crime, hate crime, domestic crime, violence, drugs and terrorism.

The national advertising for UK’s police force is handled by M&C Saatchi.
