Waitrose sales and marketing director Mark Price is to move on to the John Lewis Partnership main board as development director working across both the supermarket and department store brands.
Until now Price has only had a seat on the Waitrose board. It is expected that someone will be appointed internally to take over responsibility for marketing and sales at Waitrose. It is understood that head of marketing Amanda Bindon is not in line for the role.
Price is taking over the position of development director from Charlie Mayfield, who is being made managing director of the John Lewis chain in place of Luke Mayhew when he leaves in December.
It is understood that Price will be responsible for looking at acquisitions and new areas of development for the group, such as financial services and online activities.
Price recently moved Waitrose’s £8m advertising account out of FCB/London and into Clemmow Hornby Inge and the start-up from Ken Hoggins and Chris O’Shea called HOW (MW June 24).
He has also been heavily involved in converting the 18 Safeway stores and one Morrisons store bought from Wm Morrison into Waitrose shops.
