Furniture retailer Hammonds has appointed Doner Cardwell Hawkins to handle its £4.5m advertising business. It follows a competitive pitch against a number of undisclosed agencies.
The account was previously held by CheethamBellJWT and it is not known if the Manchester-based agency was involved in the pitch. The pitch was handled by the AAR and Hammonds marketing manager Claire Parker.
Doner Cardwell Hawkins will now handle all advertising for the retailer, which sells fitted home and office furniture, including television and press work. A Hammonds spokeswoman says the appointment will not affect other roster agencies, such as media agency PHD Compass.
CheethamBellJWT was appointed in December 2004 with a brief to target women, after pitching against Claydon Heeley Jones Mason (now Claydon Heeley) and Joshua.
The Leicestershire-based retailer has 17 stores and 84 concessions across the UK. Parker says sales have risen 15% year on year in "a static market". Hammonds was founded in 1926 as TS Hammonds Cabinet Maker and remains a family-run company.
