Olympics organiser extends sponsorship search to clothing sector

The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games has announced a new domestic sponsorship sector for the 2012 Olympics. "Clothing and homeware" has been added to the tier-one categories, meaning there are now six 50m-plus deals available to potential sponsors.

The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has announced a new domestic sponsorship sector for the 2012 Olympics. “Clothing and homeware” has been added to the tier-one categories, meaning there are now six £50m-plus deals available to potential sponsors.

Lloyds TSB has already signed up as the official banking and insurance partner, while EDF is the official utility services partner. LOCOG is still looking for sponsors for the telecoms, automotive, airline, sportswear and oil and gas sectors.

LOCOG commercial director Chris Townsend says: “It has become apparent over the last year or so that there was a great deal of interest from clothing and homeware companies so we decided to create this new category to harness that interest.”

In addition to the usual marketing rights, it is thought the clothing and homeware partner would also provide suits for Team GB and Paralympics GB for the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2012 games.
