Scotsman opens online store to drive website traffic

The Scotsman has launched an online shop in an effort to drive traffic to its website. The site will offer a wide range of products from gift and gadgets to home furnishings.

The service has been developed with Advanced Mail Order, the specialist postal order company. Customers pay online for the goods, which also include flowers and CDs, which can be delivered across the UK.

The Scotsman claims to have about 3.8m unique users to its website every month and says this is the first such online “gift” service launched by a UK newspaper.

Latest financial figures reveal Johnston Press, the publisher of The Scotsman, suffered a fall in UK ad revenues for the first five months of the year, down 2.3%.
