Easy Living, the Condé Nast-owned women’s monthly magazine, is launching a compact “eco edition” in response to reader demand for a convenient but green product. It claims it is the first glossy women’s magazine to offer a “environmentally friendlier” paper option.

The compact edition, which will launch with the February 2008 issues, will be produced on 100% de-inked, recycled paper. The cover will use a combination of in-inked waste fibre and virgin fibre.

The full size edition will continue to be printed on papers that are made from 100% virgin fibre and are recyclable and renewable products, using wood sourced from sustainable forests and chlorine-free bleached pulp.

Easy Living editor, Susie Forbes, says: “We aren’t claiming to save the world, but the fact that the compact eco edition will be printed on fully recycled paper is a very small step in the right direction on behalf of the environment.”
