FSA uses TV ads to push traffic light labelling

The Food Standards Agency is launching a new TV advert to promote its traffic light labelling system. The campaign breaks today.

It will aim to educate consumers about the traffic light labelling. The ads, voiced by comedian Dawn French, will encourage shoppers to look for and use traffic light labels. It will also remind consumers that they can find red, amber and green traffic light labels on many food products and that these could make healthier eating easier.

It will air for three weeks during GMTV breaks. The campaign will also include outdoor and press.

The FSA traffic light system uses the red, amber and green colours to show if foods have high, medium or low levels of fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt.

This voluntary labelling system was first rolled out in 2005.
