BT Retail loses boss of consumer division

BT Retail’s consumer division is looking for a marketing director following the announcement that Tim Evans is moving to head up marketing at its small to medium enterprises (SME) arm.

As marketing director he will report to BT Retail’s SME managing director Craig Rowlans. Evans replaces Jon Furmston who is leaving to head up RedCARE, BT’s security and remote monitoring business.

Evans has a long history with BT, including a brief stint at Cellnet as brand director. He returned to BT in 1998 to head its UK marketing communications, during which time he was responsible for appointing St Luke’s to improve the company’s image with young people. This was followed by a role as director of marketing services before he took up the post of marketing director for the UK consumer division nearly two years ago.

According to a spokesman for BT Consumer, Evans is moving across to BT Retail’s SME business at the end of September because he wants a “fresh challenge”.

A replacement for Evans is expected to be announced shortly. However, a spokesperson at the unit ruled out the possibility of Amanda MacKenzie – who replaced Evans in December 2000 as director of marketing services – filling the role because she does not work exclusively for the consumer division, but also supports other parts of BT’s business.
