Dixons recruits management team to develop e-commerce offers
Dixons Stores Group has launched a direct-selling and e-commerce management team to take advantage of the growing demand for Internet-sold goods.
The group, which owns the Dixons, Currys, PC World, and The Link chains, has appointed management consultant Stuart Carson to head a three-strong unit focusing on developing Dixons’ direct shopping ventures.
Carson, who was most recently director of financial retailing and e-business at management consultants PricewaterhouseCoopers, will report to Dixons’ top marketer, group marketing services director Elizabeth Fagan. He joins on August 10.
The new department will take over responsibility for the Dixons Direct home-shopping operation and aims to develop e-commerce offers for the group’s various chains.
It offers online shopping only through the Dixons chain Website, and spin-off computer games chain, @jakarta, which launched a transactional site on the Internet last week.
The new team includes a sales and marketing director; new media production director; and operations and supply chain director to support Carson. All were recruited internally. Ian Ditchum has been named as the sales and marketing director.
In a separate move, Dixons has appointed Nick Wilkinson, formerly international strategy consultant with McKinsey & Co, as managing director of its mobile phone store chain The Link.
His appointment follows the promotion in March of Nick Bish-Jones to managing director of the Dixons chain.
