Granada in Vice cover-up

Media hacks up and down the land would have been forgiven for thinking that their dry cleaning had been delivered to their desks 13 years late last week.

“Great TV never goes out of fashion” proclaimed the label attached to the silver suit bags. But the same could not be said for the bags’ contents.

A white blazer, with sleeves rolled up; a pair of oversized Rayban sunglasses; and a pastel blue, wide-necked t-shirt, were enough to raise a rash of reddened faces and the abrupt rejoinder of “I can assure you, it’s not mine”.

To the disappointment of colleagues it was true. The outfits were sent by the PR department at Granada TV’s Plus channel to announce the return of 80’s hit TV series Miami Vice.

But the Diary wonders just how many of the suit recipients whisked their gifts home for a clandestine and nostalgic re-enactment of the cult show.
