Virgin Radio marketing director David Andrews (pictured) is leaving the station to join rival GCap Media as audience development director for Capital 95.8. He will start in the New Year.
His appointment has led to the departure of Capital marketing director Nick Button, who will not be replaced. Andrew will work with the station’s managing director Paul Jackson, the former chief executive of Virgin Radio, across programming and marketing.
Andrews, who worked the station on a contract basis, is the third senior departure to Capital from Virgin this year. He joins Fru Hazlitt, former Virgin chief executive and now managing director of GCap London, and former Virgin programme director Jackson, who replaced Hazlitt as chief executive before defecting to GCap to become managing director of Capital 95.8.
Jackson says: “I have given much consideration to our structure regarding marketing and events and have concluded that we need to alter our approach. The restructure means that there will be no marketing director role at the station. Nick had a baptism of fire and covered a lot of ground in the past year both with creative work and intensive research on the brand and made a great contribution in taking the station.”
Meanwhile, his departure has triggered a restructure at Virgin that will see programme director David Lloyd expand his role. He will now also oversee marketing and PR, co-promotions and research.
Lloyd, the former managing director of LBC, will work with Virgin PR manager Cat MacDonald, who has been promoted to head of communications with responsibility for strategic communications across consumer, trade and corporate, and marketing manager Clare Baker, who has been promoted to head of marketing and will also work across consumer, trade and events.
Lloyd joined Virgin in October this year and is developing the station’s schedule. He has bought in former Radio 1 duo JK and Joel to present its weekend breakfast show and Iain lee, who will front a new Saturday night show. Both will launch in Janaury.
