Daily Star leads tabloid charge in July
Coverage of killer Raoul Moat and price promotions helped tabloid newspapers boost their circulation in July.
Red top titles registered a 1.68% month on month lift in average daily net circulation to 5.45 million, according to latest ABC figures.
The Daily Star, which slashed its cover price to 10p in July, saw the biggest increase up 4.1% to 843,229 copies.
The Sun’s circulation increased 2.09% to pass the 3 million mark.
Sunday red-top titles also registered gains. Average net circulation across the sector increased 2.08% to 5.34 million.
Daily Star Sunday posted the biggest uplift , up 5.07% to 370,032, followed by The People, 3.93% to 539,692 and the News of the World, 2.18% to 2.9 million.

The former night club bouncer went on the run after shooting his ex-girlfriend, killing her partner and shooting and blinding a policeman.
Daily broadsheets titles fared less well with average daily net circulation dipping 1.49% to 2.12 million.
The Financial Times, down 3.41% to 378,497, and The Guardian, down to 277,246, saw the steepest declines.
Quality Sunday titles dipped 1.83% to 2.13 million.
