Mail Online retains lead in August ABCEs

Mail Online has retained its lead as the most popular online newspaper for the month of August, according to ABCE figures released today.

The DMGT-owned site has claimed 2.6m average daily unique browsers for August, up 2.31% on the previous month.

Mail Online is the only newspaper site to have steadily increased its number of online browsers every month for at least the past five months. Other sites have experienced fluctuations.

The Independent has shown the greatest growth for August, up 3.9% on July, claiming 490,499 average daily unique browsers, though it has ranked below all of its rivals that participate in ABCE.

The Guardian maintains second position, claiming 1.9m average daily unique browsers, up less than 1% on last month, while The Telegraph, also up on July, by 3.6% has recorded 1.7m average daily unique browsers.

Mirror Group has seen a 2.8% drop in its average daily unique browsers, recording figures of 0.5m for August.
