Freeview has awarded its £5m advertising account to Beattie McGuiness Bungay following a three-way pitch against Wieden & Kennedy and St Luke’s. Incumbent Delaney Lund Knox Warren, which had held the business for just nine months, was not involved.

The pitch was overseen by marketing communications director Rob Farmer, who joined Freeview in April from CHI & Partners, where he was a partner.

BMB has been briefed to create a campaign for Freeview digital TV recorders in the run up to Christmas. It has also been tasked to increase Freeview’s awareness, ahead of the switchover to digital, which completes in 2012.

Freeview operator DTV Services was set up in 2002 to capitalise on the switch from terrestrial to digital TV, offering a number of free to air digital channels. DTV is a joint venture owned by the BBC, British Sky Broadcasting, ITV and electric utility National Grid.
