Hytner to head Universal McCann EMEA

Universal McCann has appointed former Barclays and ITV marketing director Jim Hytner as president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He moves from his current position of commercial director of Top Up TV. He will replace Diederik Breijer, who left the role in January after just six months in the job.

It is not known at this stage when he is due to join the Interpublic Group-owned business.

Hytner will report to the media agency network’s global chief executive Matt Seiler and Graham Duff the EMEA president of Mediabrands, IPG’s operations which manages all of its global media-related assets.

Duff has previously worked with Hytner at ITV, when the latter was marketing director and the former was chief executive of Granada Enterprises.

Prior to his most recent role at Top UP TV, Hytner had worked at Barclays for four years as its chief marketer.

He introduced several strategies aimed at making the bank seem less formal.

These included calling its ATMs the “hole in the wall” and developing the “inventive spirit” campaign.
