Robinson first joined Sun owner News UK, formerly News International, in 2010 as head of customer engagement. He was then seconded to the director of customer retention role in January this year to lead marketing and sales for Sun+ in the build up to its launch on 1 August.
He joined News UK from BBC Worldwide, where he held a variety of product development, publisher and marketing roles at the Radio Times during his 10 year tenure at the public service broadcaster’s commercial operation.
Robinson replaces Rob Painter, who left The Sun earlier this year to join Sky Betting and Gaming as marketing director.
The announcement of Robinson’s appointment comes on the eve of the opening game of the new Premier League season. Earlier this year News UK inked a £20m three-year deal to broadcast near-live online clips of Premier League matches across The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times’ digital and mobile platforms.
The Sun launched a £10m marketing campaign to mark the launch of Sun+ Goals this month.
