Fujitsu to target early mobile adopters

Japanese technology giant Fujitsu is to launch its tablets and smartphones in Europe for the first time to appeal to early technology adopters in the region.

Fujitsu

The company, which claims to have a 20% share of the Japanese mobile device market, is looking to source operator partners for the device at this month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as it looks to expand its mobile division overseas and compete with the dominant brands in the sector such as Samsung and Apple.

A spokeswoman told Marketing Week that the slim “high-end” devices will contain NFC (Near Field Communications) technology built in as standard and advanced cameras.

They will also be waterproof, which Fujitsu says will help the products appeal to other niche markets.

It is thought the devices will run on both the Android and Windows Phone operating systems.

Fujitsu’s European mobile portfolio is expected to launch with two smartphones and a tablet later this year although exact timings have not yet been announced.

The move comes in the same week that Japanese technology rival Panasonic announced it is to return to the European mobile phone market with a new Android device.
